Just across the Allegheny River is Pittsburgh's Northside leading out to the suburbs of the North Hills. Pittsburgh's Northside is a collection of neighborhoods that comprise nearly a third of the city. Take a stroll in a unique urban park...walk some of the city's most New York-like streets, or move in just a short distance from downtown. Just across the 16th Street Bridge from the Strip District, the Northside is convenient to many of Pittsburgh's entertainment and cultural facilities including The Carnegie Science Center, Carnegie Museum of History, Carnegie Museum of Art, The Andy Warhol Museum, Mattress Factory Museum, Heinz Field and PNC Park. Lush greenery and rolling hills marks the North Hills of Pittsburgh. A mix of farmhouses, older homes, post World War II homes and new subdivisions, the North Hills offers homes with a wide range of architecture and price ranges. Two of the more notable amenities located in the North Hills are Hartwood Acres and North Park. Hartwood Acres was never intended as one of the original regional parks, but presented a sudden opportunity for the county in 1969 when the owner of the beautiful Hartwood estate, Mary Flinn Lawrence, offered the property to the county at a very reasonable price...provided that development would not take place near her home until after her death. Hartwood has an outdoor amphitheater on the western side of the property and the horse trails are still used for riding as well as walking. There are no picnic groves or other recreational and sports facilities--this is a park that provides cultural services. North Park is one of Allegheny County's many parks and holds an assortment of wildlife, vegetation and recreational opportunities. Nestled in a 3,010-acre plot of land that streches into three townships and includes the largest man-made lake in Allegheny County, North Park is sure to have something for everybody...baseball fields, basketball courts, boat house, cross country ski trail, golf course, horses and riding trail, ice skating rink, lakes for fishing, lodges, picnic areas, playgrounds, scout cabins, soccer fields, swimming pool, tennis courts, wild fowl reserve, walking, roller blading and bike trails
